Wash all* garments on a cold delicate, gentle, or hand wash cycle with like colors with little to no fabric softener. Do not bleach. Hang dry. If there are removable pieces, separate them from the cape and put them in a bag to wash.
*If a garment has different instructions they will be sent to the customer separately.

A way we promote sustainability with our products, even after they have left our shop, is through our care instructions. Many people use hot water, a lot of detergent or fabric softener, and even bleach or other chemicals that decrease the lifespan of their clothes. Sometimes this is because we haven't been taught better, and sometimes it is because our society is designed to get people to buy more and more, so improper care is actually preferred and encouraged.

Friction
Our care instructions are designed to minimize the damage to our garments with each wash by reducing the amount of friction the garment experiences, and lessening the likelihood of tears and missing pieces (like buttons) due to snags that could happen outside of the bag. The gentler the cycle the shorter the spin cycle and the less friction occurs.

Hot water breaks down fabric and does not necessarily make your clothes much cleaner than cold water making it not worth the energy and damage.

If you are really willing to go all in with sustainable washing you can likely decrease the amount of detergent you use as well. The recommended amount on most bottles is widely exaggerated, 1-2 tablespoons at most. That extra detergent doesn't make your clothes extra clean it makes them more likely to stay dirty by forming a barrier that remains even after washing.
